Let’s face it, when it comes to TV and film characters, we’ve seen it all (if not a lot). But when it comes to skin conditions, scars are often a physical characteristic used to set apart the evil or damaged from the heroic or perfect. Here’s our roundup of some of the best scarred TV & Film characters.
The Joker – Batman
One of the more famous villains from the Batman series, The Joker is known for the scars on either side of his mouth, which force it into a sinister smile. The true origin of his scars is unknown, but a few different scenarios are hinted at in The Dark Knight (2008)
Scar – The Lion King
A character so famous for his scar, it even became his name! Scar is the uncle of the hero Simba in The Lion King, and his scar is used to portray his evil nature, though its origin is unknown.
When you have scissors for hands, it’s likely you’ll get scarred, which is exactly how Edward Scissorhands acquired his is the 1990’s film of the same name.
Tony Montana – Scarface
Although it’s heavily hinted that Cuban refugee Tony Montana received his facial scar from a childhood fight, saying “you should see the other kid”, its origin is still guessable. Despite this, it was still a prominent enough feature on Tony to title a hit film!
This famous Hogwarts graduate acquired the lightening bolt shaped scar on his forehead after Lord Voldemort tried to murder him. Needless to say he survived, and his scar became one of his most well know attributes.
Frankenstein’s Monster has been brought to life once more in the new Showtime series ‘Penny Dreadful’. It’s fairly obvious to state how he got his scars, but just in case: it’s from being stitched together from other people’s body parts.
Freddy Krueger – A Nightmare On Elm Street
One of the most terrifying film characters of the 1980’s, Krueger was a disfigured serial killer who attacked people from within their dreams. He acquired his scars by being burned alive before coming back as a spirit and hunting his victims.
Darth Vader – Star Wars
Although Darth Vader spends the majority of his time fearsomely masked in the Star Wars films, when he removes it in Return of the Jedi he is revealed to have a scar across his face and head.
Tyrion Lannister – Game of Thrones
Though Tyrion wasn’t always scarred, the brutal story lines of Game of Thrones finally caught up with the Lannister and he now sports a scar across his face in the critically acclaimed TV series, which he attained in the battle of Blackwater.
